Pony Club Triathlon

On Thursday 14th February the Pony Club held their qualifying round for the National Pony Club Triathlon Championships. There was an excellent entry for this new competition which was held in glorious sunshine. 

The running was held at Poortown (kind permission of Mr & Mrs Peter Lace) with the Mini boys and girls class running 500m, both girls and boys in the Minimus - 1000m and the Junior and Open girls - 1500m. Star performers in this section were Lucy Corlett, Freddie Ralston and Kirree Quayle. 

The swimming was held at Peel swimming pool where members had to swim as far as possible in 2 minutes (3 minutes for the Junior & Open classes). Blae Richardson, Breeshey Kermeen-Jansen and Phoebe Cross all excelled in this phase. 

The final phase – pistol shooting was held at Laxey Rifle Club under the the watchful eye of Mr Martin Caley who has provided wonderful help and support in this discipline to Pony Club members for many years. The new turning targets were used for the first time in a competition and these made for some very interesting results. Really good scores were shot by Aislinn Lace, Daisy Loader and Aalish Creer but top shooting score for the night went to Phoebe Cross. 

This was a most enjoyable competition and we hope to run more triathlons for members and also when the weather improves will run a tetrathlon which include the riding cross country section. The results were as follows:-

A big thank you to Jane Cross and Carolyn Lace for organising this event and also Martin Caley for his invaluable help with the pistol shooting. Members are reminded that the next event will be a showjumping rally to be held on Saturday 23rd February, two venues – the Glebe and GGH. A flatwork lesson will be available for those members not wishing to jump. Annual Prize Presentation

This year this event was held at a new venue – Vagabonds Rugby Club beautiful new premises.  As usual this was an extremely noisy night with hoards of children attending although it was lovely to see so many of our older members making an appearance.  DJ Mark Cowin created a good party atmosphere with lots of games and a full dance floor.  

The prizes were presented by Mrs Ann Vickers, past Treasurer of the Club for many years. The prizes were awarded to the following members:-

The next event will be a Horse and Pony Care at Kennaa on Friday 18^th January at 6.45pm. This is an unmounted event and is open to all members.  The topic for seniors will be clipping and juniors plaiting. If you could indicate on Facebook if you are likely to be attending it would be helpful.

The next mounted event will be on Sunday 20^th January.  Showjumping rally at GGH and some showjumping and polework at the Glebe. Entries to Chris by previous Tuesday please.

All members are reminded that subscriptions are now due.  If you wish to represent the Club at an Area event your sub MUST be paid by 31^st January 2013 - NO exceptions will be made.

Yogi Breisner Weekend

Pony Club were thrilled and honoured this weekend to host a visit from world acclaimed Olympic Eventing Squad Coach Mr Yogi Breisner.  This provided an incredible opportunity for members to meet and talk with this very approachable and  famous horseman.  On Saturday afternoon at Glenlough (kind permission of Mr & Mrs Peter Quayle) he spoke to members about his 2012 Olympic experiences, complete with many photos and plans not normally available to the public, and this was followed by a lengthy question time when members had the opportunity to ask Yogi loads of questions which he always answered fully to everyones complete satisfaction!  On Saturday night he attended the annual Fund Raising Ball held at the Empress Hotel where he gave a riveting after dinner speech again on the 2012 Olympics but with a more adult perspective.  This was a really enjoyable  night but not so great for those members who had to be up early on the Sunday morning to be demonstration riders for the first of two lecture/demos given by Yogi at the fabulous new facilities at Ballakaneen Dressage (kind permission of Mrs Ann King).  The members in the morning demo were Laura Gill, Imogen Cannell, Katy Robinson and Vicky Hargreaves and in the afternoon session Abby Corlett, Yas Ingham, Hebe Williamson and Charlotte Shimmin.  Both sessions were truly inspirational for both the audience and the participants.

8 MEMBERS TO BE SELECTED TO BE DEMONSTRATION RIDERS FOR YOGI BREISNER, THE 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES EVENTING TEAM COACH

We are lucky to have Mr Yogi Breisner coming over to the Isle of Man on 10th and 11th November 2012. During his stay Mr Breisner is going to give two flatwork lecture/demos (4 riders in each) on the Sunday 11th November 2012 to be held at Ballakaneen Stables, Andreas (by kind permission of Mrs Ann King).

To be one of the selected riders for the lectures we are holding a COMPETITION - FOR MEMBERS AGED 11 AND UPWARDS

In approximately 150 words tell us why you and your pony/horse should be selected to be one of the demonstration riders for Mr Yogi Breisner.  A photograph of you riding your horse/pony can be included – Get writing!

Rally Thursday 26th July at Oatlands POSTPONED

Unfortunately due to the amount of rain overnight and this morning we are again forced to postpone the rally until next week.  Entries will be carried forward. The forecast was for a bit of drizzle which we could have coped with but this heavy rain has soaked the ground again.  Rally sorry to keep changing things but as you will all appreciate this wet weather is causing disruption everywhere.
