The Area 4 Horse and Pony Care Competition was held at Deandane Riding Stables, Wigan on Sunday 20th May.  The Isle of Man Branch entered both a Senior team and a Junior Team however the average age in both the Manx teams was extremely young.  This competition involves a series of tasks which test the members knowledge and practical capabilities.  Both teams put up very creditable performances and the Senior team finished 5th - just a few points behind the winners. Well done to both teams.

The above team members and ponies along with team trainers Jane Cross and Cheryl Curphey competed in the Area 4 Prince Philip Cup Games  competition which was held at Newland Green Equestrian Centre on Saturday 19th May and was hosted by the Furness and District Branch of the Pony Club.  It wasn't a very nice day weather wise but at least it didn't rain however it was really cold both for the competitors and their ponies.  In spite of the difficult conditions the Isle of Man performed extremely well to produce a convincing win.  This win qualifies the team to compete at the Zone finals which are to be held at Onley Grounds, Coventry on the weekend of 30th June/1st July, however the Isle of Man will be competing on the second day - Sunday 1st July.  Good luck to the team who are already training.

The end of a lovely day!

Diddy Day camp was held at the Glebe on Saturday 12th May.  Sixteen  young members attended and had a lovely time.  The children were divided into three rides, one ride being made up completely of boys! Instructors for the day were Michelle Hargreaves and Steph Timmonds, with AnneMarie taking mini achievement badges. During the morning each ride managed to fit in a ride, a stable management session and at least one achievement badge. A delicious lunch of a sausage bap and and ice cream for afters was served  in the Cubby Hole  - quite a job feeding them all at the one time but it was no problem to Haydn!  During the afternoon all members took part in team games which was thoroughly enjoyed by all - including some very competitive mums and grandmums.  At the end there was a presentation where the members received the badges and rosettes for the games and this year they also received a very special Camp 2012 rosette. Many thanks to  Haydn and Jo Cubbon  who went out of their way to make this a very special day for all the children.

The 2012 Prince Philip Cup Games team will shortly be leaving the island to compete at the Area 4 Games Competition which is being held at Ulverston, Cumbria on Saturday 19th May 2012.  The six members  have been practising twice weekly for a few months now under the watchful eyes of trainers Jane Cross and Cheryl Curphey and have developed into a very promising team. Breeshey, Isla and Abby have competed at the Area competion previously but for Kate and Aalish and reserve Charlotte,  this will be their first experience at this competition.  Most Area 4 Pony Club branches have the opportunity to compete in a Winter League Games competition which provides valuable competitive practice but unfortunately on the island, as there is only one branch of the Pony Club, we have to rely on previous team members to provide competition.  Good luck to the team and fingers crossed that the weather will be kind and allow them to travel the ponies out and back on their due sailings.

Games Competition at Kennaa on Good Friday 6th April 2012

Lots of younger members attended the Games Competition held at Kennaa on Good Friday 6th April 2012. There was an Easter Bonnet competition and those that turned up with Easter Bonnets were very stylish and colourful! As usual this was a very well run event - well done to Chris Chatel and Jane Cross and their band of helpers.
