Isle of Man Team win Area 4 Prince Philip Cup Games

The 2011 Prince Philip Cup Games Team members - Katy Robinson, Breeshey Evans, Danni Callin, Abigail Turner-Drewry and Isla Curphey travelled to Lancaster to compete in the Area 4 Games Competition. Both the children and the ponies stayed at Wild Duck Farm, Bolton-le-Sands, with Tom and Sarah Robertson. Sarah and Tom are wonderful hosts and their wonderful hospitality is greatly appreciated by the Isle of Man branch. Due to lameness of ponies Danni ended up riding Isla's pony Colour Code and Isla rode Elle Cain's pony Twinkle however in spite of these late changes the Isle of Man had a most successful day winning both the Tack and Turnout Competition and then the overall Games competition. The weather was cold and miserable, threatening rain for most of the time but the team performed really well to win by a clear margin, earning their place in the next round of the competition - the Zone to be held at Weston Lawns on the 2/3rd July. To celebrate their victory the team with their trainer Chris Chatel, Sarah and Tom and the Lancaster Team along with all the Manx games groupies enjoyed a night at Frankie and Benny's restaurant.

Unfortunately the trip then started to go down hill, everyone was due to come back on the 14.15 boat from Heysham on Monday but this boat was cancelled due to the high winds, the team managed to get home on the 14.15 on the Tuesday but the ponies had an extended holiday with Sarah until the following Sunday when Cheryl brought them back overnight, arriving back in the island nearly a week later than intended. A very successful result for the team and trainers Chris Chatel and Jane Cross and we wish them good luck for their next round on 2/3 July.

The Isle of Man Prince Philip Cup Games team will be heading off to compete at the Area 4 Competition in Lancaster on the 22nd May. This year the team is made up of Katy Robinson, Breeshey Evans, Danni Callin, Abbie Turner-Drewry and Isla Curphey. After a few set backs, namely Katy suffered a suspected fracture of her wrist which turned out not be fractured but still damaged, fortunately Katy is tough and has continued practicing throughout and then Danni’s pony became unsound and a new mount had to be found for Danni, luckily for Danni, Isla’s other pony Rio was offered and Danni and Rio have formed a very good partnership. Once again the trainers have been Chris Chatel and Jane Cross, both have many years experience training our teams and we are hopeful of another good result from this team.
