The weekend of the 16th/17th July, five members - Phoebe Cross (16) , Aalish Creer (11), Isla Curphey ( 10), Blae Richardson (7) and Lucy Corlett (6) travelled to England to take part in the Tetrathlon competition for Areas 4 & 5 (the North West and part of Wales). The tetrathlon consists of shooting at a target, swimming, cross country riding and cross country running, although those aged 8 & under throw beanbags instead of shooting and ride a working hunter course.
Day one was held at Whitchurch in Shropshire where competitors did the shooting and swimming phase. All five competitors did well at these phases and Blae Richardson received the medal for the best swim in her class.
Day two was at Kelsall Hill in Cheshire and the weather could not have been more unkind. It rained heavily non stop from first thing in the morning until after the competition finished at 5pm. Phoebe was in the Intermediate competition and did extremely well being placed 6th and qualifying to go on to the Intermediate Championships at Hartbury later next month.
For Isla Curphey this was her first venture into Tetrathlon off the Island and she competed very impressively in the Minimus in every section, gaining maximum marks in the riding and finishing 2nd overall. Aalish was 6th in the same class.
The two youngest members Blae and Lucy were in the pre-mini class and as this was the last class of the day they had a long wait to do their runs. Both were soaked to the skin and blue with cold by the time they ran and Blae the last run of the day, slipped in the mud and was sick while running. However they both finished and Lucy was awarded the medal for the best run in the class. Blae finished 3rd overall in the pre-mini class closely followed by Lucy at 4th.
The team Aalish, Isla, Blae and Lucy were also 5th placed team out of the 13 teams competing, so all five members came home with more than one award. A successful, if somewhat wet, weekend!
